The Military Gold Sportsman's Licence — $20 Instead of $100, But Not for Every Veteran
A Florida resident who is an ACTIVE or RETIRED member of the armed forces, reserves, National Guard, Coast Guard or Coast Guard Reserve buys the Gold Sportsman's Licence for $20 instead of $100. It carries the full bundle: hunting, freshwater and saltwater fishing, plus deer, wildlife management area, archery, muzzleloading, crossbow, turkey, waterfowl, snook and lobster permits. Read the eligibility carefully — this is active or RETIRED military, not veterans generally, and a current military ID is required.

Stat. 28.222 requires the clerk of the circuit court to record a veteran's certificate of discharge, separation or service without cost to the veteran — the clerk recovers the recording charge from the county instead. It creates a copy inside Florida that you or your family can obtain again without going to the federal archive.

Fla. Stat. 205.055 exempts an honorably discharged veteran from the local business tax and any fees imposed under chapter 205. For a business entity the qualifying person must hold a MAJORITY interest and the business must have fewer than 100 employees. It is claimed by a signed Request for Fee Exemption under penalty of perjury, with supporting documentation. Military spouses are covered by the same section.

The permit is held by the event organiser, so this is not something you claim yourself.

The Florida Forest Service runs no-cost hunts and outdoor recreation events in state forests and on public and private land for Florida-resident honorably discharged veterans certified at least 30% permanently service-connected disabled, and for Military Order of the Purple Heart recipients. Active duty members with service-connected injuries are covered too. It is donation-funded through the Friends of Florida State Forests account.

Fla. Stat. 1009.27 gives any student using benefits under 38 U.S.C. chapters 30, 31, 32, 33, 34 or 35, or 10 U.S.C. chapter 106, one fee deferment each academic year — plus a further deferment every time the benefit payment is delayed by something outside their control. This DEFERS the fees; it does not waive them. The money is still owed.

Home Care for the Elderly pays a subsidy to the person providing a full-time family-type living arrangement in a private home for up to three elderly people, plus payments for medical, pharmaceutical and dental costs not covered by Medicare, Medicaid or insurance, and special supplements where needed. It is one of very few places where this state pays the caregiver rather than a provider. Eligibility is set to criteria substantially similar to Medicaid nursing home eligibility, and nothing in it turns on military service.

What changes locally is where you file, which document your property appraiser accepts, and how much a property tax exemption is actually worth — county tax rates range from 6.04 to 16.95 mills, so the same exemption saves roughly three times as much in one county as another.
