How to claim it
- 1Ring the area agency on aging for your county and ask for respite by name. §430.502 establishes model day care and respite care programmes alongside the memory disorder clinics, and respite is the service caregivers most often do not know to ask for.
- 2Ask which memory disorder clinic serves you. §430.502(1) names fifteen, at the three medical schools and at named hospitals and universities across the state, and a diagnosis from one of them is often what opens the door to the initiative's services.
- 3Do not lead with the DD214, because it changes nothing here. Chapter 430 was read end to end this session and contains no veteran provision, no veteran priority and no veteran set-aside.
- 4Do lead with the DD214 at the county veteran service office on the same day. The federal caregiver and home-care routes are where service actually counts, and running both applications in parallel is the practical answer to a chapter with no veteran door.
- 5If a programme tells you veterans get priority, ask which section says so. The intent clause at §430.02(3) supports families and other caregivers generally; it draws no distinction between them.
- 6Ask about the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly at §430.84 as well, if the person needing care is at a nursing-home level of need but wants to stay at home.
