Expedited Concealed Weapon Licence Processing for Servicemembers and Veterans

Your application goes to the front of the queue. It does NOT become free — the fee is unchanged.

Verified August 18, 2026

What this benefit is

Florida moves a servicemember's or veteran's concealed weapon licence application to the front of the processing queue.

That is the whole benefit. The licence fee is unchanged.

What it's worth: Expedited processing — the fee is unchanged

  • The statutory fee is up to $55 for a first licence and up to $45 on renewal, plus fingerprint processing. Veterans pay it.

Who is entitled to it

  • A veteran as defined in §1.01, on submitting a DD214.
  • A servicemember as defined in §250.01, on submitting a Common Access Card, uniformed services ID, or current deployment orders.

Not sure whether that describes you?

Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.

The thing most people get wrong

It is not a fee waiver, whatever you have read

Florida is regularly listed as waiving the concealed weapon licence fee for veterans. It does not. We searched the whole of §790.06: the only licensing exemption in the section is for certified law enforcement, correctional and correctional probation officers. Veterans pay the same fee as everyone else — up to $55 for a first licence and up to $45 on renewal, plus fingerprint processing. What they get is speed. We publish this record to correct the claim, not to route an application.

How to claim it

  1. 1Submit a DD214 with the application if you are a veteran, or a Common Access Card, uniformed services ID or current deployment orders if you are serving.
  2. 2Ask for expedited processing explicitly — §790.06(5)(f) requires the application form to carry directions for requesting it.

Common mistakes that cost people this benefit

  • Budgeting for a free licence and being surprised at the counter.
  • Not asking for expedited processing. §790.06(5)(f) requires the application form to carry directions for requesting it, but it is a request, not something applied automatically.
