Questions people ask
- Why is the total less than my percentages added up?
- 38 CFR §4.25. Each rating applies to what is left of the whole person after the previous one, so 50% and 30% combine to 65% and round to 70% — never 80%. The working is shown with your result.
- Does tinnitus pay 10% per ear?
- No. Note (2) to Diagnostic Code 6260 assigns a single evaluation whether the sound is in one ear, both ears, or the head. 10% is the maximum this code reaches.
- My joint hurts but my range of motion is fine. Is that nothing?
- It is not nothing. 38 CFR §4.59 recognises actually painful joints as entitled to at least the minimum compensable rating for the joint, which is why this tool asks about pain separately from movement.
- Why will it not estimate my hearing loss?
- Diagnostic Code 6100 is scored from puretone thresholds and Maryland CNC speech discrimination mapped through Tables VI and VII. There is no honest way to guess it from how hearing feels, so we say so rather than invent a number.
