How much is a property tax exemption worth in Eureka County?
The rate shown is the county's effective property tax rate - aggregate taxes actually paid divided by aggregate home value, from the Census ACS 2023 five-year file. Every overlapping levy, credit and cap is already inside it, which makes it the honest basis for sizing an exemption's dollar value.
These are example savings for a typical home in this county, not an estimate of your own bill. Your actual saving depends on your assessed value, your taxing districts, and how this exemption interacts with any others you hold.
| Effective rate | what homeowners here actually paid |
|---|---|
| Basis | ACS 2023 five-year aggregates |
| A tiered exemption of assessed value, by rating band (NRS 361.091) | about $0 a year against the county rate |
| Total exemption (NRS 361.091) | the entire bill — about $975 a year against the county rate on a typical $250,000 value, and more once your other taxing units are added |
| Where to file | Eureka County County assessor |
| Deadline | June 15, every year |

Disabled Veteran Exemption — Tiered and Inflation-Indexed
From a permanent 60% service-connected disability, a tiered slice of assessed value comes off — and the tiers rise with inflation every fiscal year.
Assessed value off by band: $18,200 at 60–79%, $27,300 at 80–99%, $36,400 at 100% (FY 2026-27)
Wartime Veteran Exemption
A separate, smaller exemption — $2,000 of assessed value at the statutory base, CPI-grown since 2005 — for wartime-era service or 90 continuous days of active duty, no disability required.
$3,640 of assessed value (FY 2026-27)

Nevada Boards Must Build You a Reciprocity Path — Even Where None Exists Yet
NRS 622.510 requires every Nevada professional regulatory body to DEVELOP OPPORTUNITIES FOR RECIPROCITY of licensure for veterans holding a valid, unrestricted out-of-state licence that Nevada does not already recognise. The duty is on the board to create a pathway, not on you to find one — which is the useful thing to be able to say when a board tells you no route exists. Implementation varies board by board, so what this gets you in practice depends on which profession you are in.
A reciprocity pathway the board is required to develop
Veteran Designation for $8.25 — Free at Renewal — and the Placard That Still Pays the Meter
An honorably discharged veteran can add a Veteran designation to a driver licence for $8.25, or $12.25 on a commercial licence — and for nothing at all if it goes on during a renewal or another licence transaction. Separately: the disabled parking placard is a medical document with its own terms, and it does not waive a single parking fee. The Disabled Veteran plate does.
$8.25 for the designation on a non-commercial licence, $12.25 on a commercial one — nothing extra at renewal

A Year's Park Entrance for Any Nevada Veteran — No Rating Needed
Separately from the disabled veteran permit, Nevada State Parks lists a veteran annual entrance permit giving twelve months' entrance to all state parks without entrance fees, open to Nevada veterans with no disability requirement. What it does NOT cover is camping and boat launch, which the $30 disabled veteran permit does. THE COST OF THIS PERMIT IS NOT PUBLISHED on the source reviewed, so ask before assuming it is free — and if you have a permanent service-connected disability, compare it with the $30 permit, which covers more.
Twelve months' park entrance with no entrance fees
$30 for a Year of Everything — Entrance, Camping and Boat Launch at Every Nevada State Park
A Nevada resident veteran with a PERMANENT service-connected disability can buy an annual state parks permit for a $30 administrative fee that covers entrance to every state park, camping, and boat launch use for twelve months. Nearly every park benefit in this corpus waives entrance and charges separately for camping; this one covers all three. The waiver attaches to the VEHICLE CARRYING THE VETERAN. Reservations and special events are outside it, so a booked site still costs the reservation fee.
$30 a year for entrance, camping and boat launch at every state park
$15 Combination Licence — For Every Nevada Veteran
Every Nevada resident veteran — disabled or not — buys the specialty combination hunting and fishing licence for $15. The disability framing in most summaries undersells it.

Record Your DD-214 Free — and Understand That It Becomes a Public Record
Nevada county recorders SHALL record a certificate of discharge free of any charge. Recording gives you a permanent local copy you can get certified in an afternoon rather than waiting weeks on a federal archive, and it is what many other benefits ask for. But be clear about the trade: RECORDING IS OPTIONAL AND THE RECORDED DOCUMENT IS A PUBLIC RECORD. Social Security numbers are redacted before public viewing; the rest of the document is not. Decide with that in front of you rather than after.

State Veterans Memorial Cemeteries — Free for the Veteran, $450 for a Spouse
Two state-funded cemeteries, at Boulder City and at Fernley. The veteran’s burial costs nothing — plot, opening and closing, vault, headstone and perpetual care included — and a spouse or eligible dependent is charged $450, subject to change.
No charge for the veteran; $450 for a spouse or eligible dependent
Anyone Charging You to Get Your Benefits Must Hand You a Signed Disclosure First
Under NRS 417.135 a person who provides services to obtain veterans’ benefits for compensation must give a written disclosure and obtain the client’s signature before entering into the agreement. The Attorney General may recover up to $10,000 for each violation, and an aggrieved person may sue for consumer fraud.
A signed written disclosure before any paid claims agreement, and a civil fraud remedy
Office of Military Legal Assistance — Pro Bono Civil Lawyers
The Attorney General’s Office of Military Legal Assistance provides pro bono legal assistance and representation to active duty, reserve and National Guard members across a wide area of civil law, and currently assists veterans with wills and powers of attorney.
Pro bono civil representation, free of charge
Veterans Treatment Courts — Which Courts Run One, and Which Counties Have None
The judiciary’s administrative office publishes a directory of every specialty court in the state. Seven courts list a veterans docket, and every one of them sits in Clark or Washoe County. The overview page counts six veterans treatment programmes among 84 specialty courts statewide.
A veterans docket instead of an ordinary prosecution — in seven courts, in two counties
Women and Minority Veterans Program — a Named Contact and an Advisory Committee
The veterans department runs a Women and Minorities Program covering outreach, advocacy and tailored support, with a named officer combining the role with service officer training. A Women Veterans Advisory Committee publishes member biographies, meeting agendas and a report to the Governor twice a year.
A named programme contact, an advisory committee, and a published resource guide
Department Service Officers — Accredited Claims and Appeals Help at No Cost
The veterans department’s accredited service officers help veterans and their families file claims and support them through the appeals process at no cost. Offices sit inside the federal hospital in North Las Vegas, the federal regional office in Reno, and a life centre in Fallon, with an online form for a first contact.
Accredited claims and appeals help, stated by the department to be at no cost
Veteran-Directed Care Reaches Eastern Nevada Only — Here Is What Covers the Rest
The state veterans department’s caregiver page is refreshingly blunt. The self-directed programme that hands a veteran a budget for home care serves eastern Nevada, through an out-of-state medical centre, with a named coordinator. Everywhere else the page points to a statewide respite coalition and to county respite providers. Knowing which side of that line you live on saves months.

Operation Recognition — One Continuous Window From 1940 to 1975
Nevada issues a high school diploma to veterans whose schooling was interrupted by service between 16 SEPTEMBER 1940 AND 7 MAY 1975. Note what that is: one continuous window, not three separate wartime periods. Most states cut this into WWII, Korea and Vietnam blocks and leave gaps between them — a veteran who served in 1948 or in 1958 falls through those gaps elsewhere and does not fall through this one. Apply to the Nevada Department of Veterans Services.

Grant-in-Aid Where a Member Was Killed on Duty While Stationed in Nevada
The Nevada System of Higher Education makes a non-repayable grant-in-aid to the spouse and children of a member killed in the line of duty. The eligibility hinge is unusual and easy to miss: it turns on the MEMBER HAVING BEEN PERMANENTLY STATIONED IN NEVADA when killed — not on the family being Nevada residents, and not on where they live now. A family that moved away after the death should still ask. The duration of the grant is not established from the sources reviewed.
A non-repayable grant-in-aid at NSHE institutions
National Guard Fee Waiver — Registration and Laboratory Fees, Not the Professional Schools
Registration fees and laboratory fees for certain courses waived for an active member of the Nevada National Guard at a System institution. The law school, both medical schools and the dental school are ineligible.
Registration and certain laboratory fees waived
Purple Heart Fee Waiver — and Instant Resident Status for Tuition
Registration, laboratory and other mandatory fees waived at a System institution for a veteran awarded the Purple Heart, under the Board of Regents Handbook and NRS 396.544. The recipient is also deemed a bona fide Nevada resident for tuition purposes, which matters more than the waiver for anyone arriving from out of state.
Registration, laboratory and other mandatory fees waived
Guard Survivor Fee Waiver — Ten Years for a Spouse, Ten Years From 18 for a Child
Registration fees and certain laboratory fees waived for the spouse and children of a Nevada National Guard member killed in duty. A child has ten years after turning 18; a spouse has ten years from the death.
Registration and certain laboratory fees waived, for up to ten years
POW/MIA Family Fee Waiver — Ten Years From the Declaration
Registration and certain laboratory fees waived for the spouse and children of an armed forces member permanently stationed in Nevada who was identified as a prisoner of war or declared missing in action.
Registration and certain laboratory fees waived, for up to ten years
Veterans Advocate Certification — Twenty Free Modules on State and Federal Benefits
A free online certification course of twenty modules covering state benefits, the veterans homes, the memorial cemeteries, entrepreneurship, employment, education, legal and financial services, discharge upgrades, adaptation grants and presumptive diseases. Completing it earns a certificate and a place helping the department at outreach events.

Home Is Possible for Heroes — Below-Market Fixed Rate, and No First-Time-Buyer Rule
Nevada's Housing Division offers honorably discharged veterans, Guard members and active-duty personnel a below-market fixed-rate 30-year mortgage through participating lenders. NDVS lists income below $95,500 and a home price below $400,000; the Housing Division site also shows up to 5% down payment assistance on VA loans. THERE IS NO FIRST-TIME-BUYER REQUIREMENT, which is what separates it from most state housing programmes — a veteran who has owned before is not excluded.
Below-market 30-year fixed rate, with up to 5% down payment assistance on VA loans
Nevada State Veterans Homes — Skilled Nursing and Memory Care
Long-term skilled nursing, rehabilitation and memory care at the state homes in Sparks and Boulder City. A veteran rated 70 to 100 percent service-connected is covered in full by the VA; others pay a published daily rate.
Full VA-covered care at 70–100% service-connected; otherwise $173.00 a day
vehicles(2)
Vehicle Tax Exemption — Tiered Like the House
The governmental services tax on the car drops the same way the property tax does: $10,000, $15,000 or $20,000 of vehicle valuation exempt by rating band — CPI-grown since 2005.
Vehicle valuation exempt by band: statutory $10,000 at 60–79%, $15,000 at 80–99%, $20,000 at 100% — CPI-indexed since 2005
Gold Star Family Plate — $8.50 Once, and It Stops You Paying to Park
Available to immediate family members of someone killed while on active duty. It costs $8.50 to obtain and nothing to renew, and — the part almost nobody knows — it exempts the vehicle from state and local parking fees. It must be ordered in person at a motor vehicle office and cannot be personalised.
$8.50 initial, $0 renewal — and exemption from state and local parking fees

Common questions about Eureka County veteran benefits
- What can I claim here?
- The Nevada statewide records apply in every county. We have not researched county-level programmes here, so this page shows state law and complete geography rather than a local layer.
- What is it worth in this county?
- Dollar figures use the county's EFFECTIVE property tax rate - what homeowners there actually paid per dollar of home value, from the Census ACS 2023 five-year file. It is an estimate for sizing a saving; the levy table on your own bill governs.
- Where do I file for a veteran property tax exemption in Eureka County?
- File with your County assessor. The form and deadline are on each benefit record.
- What document does the Eureka County County assessor accept as proof?
- The statute sets what must be proved. An office may tell you which document it prefers, but it may not add a requirement the statute does not contain. We have not researched per-county document quirks in Nevada.
