What this benefit is

The state energy assistance programme sets four eligibility criteria: citizenship, living in the state, being at least partly responsible for home heating or cooling costs, and household income at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. Veterans, VA benefits and military service appear in none of them.

Who is entitled to it

  • This record answers the question a veteran asks about energy help.
  • Your home is in Nevada.

Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.

How to claim it

  1. 1Apply on the ordinary criteria — there is no veteran queue and waiting for one wastes the year.
  2. 2The four published criteria are citizenship, living in the state, being at least partly responsible for home heating or cooling costs by paying a utility, a fuel supplier or a landlord directly, and household gross monthly income at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.
  3. 3Check the income table by household size before deciding you are over the line. The 150 percent threshold is more generous than several neighbouring programmes.
  4. 4Note the "at least partly responsible" wording. Paying a share of energy costs through a landlord is inside it.
  5. 5The benefit is described as annual and one-time per year, usually paid straight to the energy provider.
  6. 6Apply early in the programme year. Assistance is described as evaluated year-round or until funding is exhausted.

CorrectionUtility discounts for veterans are among the most repeated claims in benefit round-ups. The administering agency’s own eligibility page lists four criteria and none of them is service. Some other states do add a veteran supplement to energy assistance; this one, as published, does not.
Known gapThe programme manual was not read this session, and individual utilities and tribal programmes run their own assistance. A veteran route could exist at that level without appearing here.
