How much is a property tax exemption worth in Bingham County?
The rate shown is the county's effective property tax rate - aggregate taxes actually paid divided by aggregate home value, from the Census ACS 2023 five-year file. Every overlapping levy, credit and cap is already inside it, which makes it the honest basis for sizing an exemption's dollar value.
These are example savings for a typical home in this county, not an estimate of your own bill. Your actual saving depends on your assessed value, your taxing districts, and how this exemption interacts with any others you hold.
| Effective rate | what homeowners here actually paid |
|---|---|
| Basis | ACS 2023 five-year aggregates |
| Up to $1,500 off the property tax bill (Idaho Code §63-705A) | about $0 a year against the county rate |
| Total exemption (Idaho Code §63-705A) | the entire bill — about $1,400 a year against the county rate on a typical $250,000 value, and more once your other taxing units are added |

Free Registration on One Vehicle at 100% — the D.V. Plate
Idaho Code 49-403 charges NO fee to register or re-register one vehicle for a veteran receiving 100% service-connected disability compensation, or with the loss or permanent loss of use of one or both feet or hands, or blindness in both eyes. Rights established under Public Law 662 (79th Congress) or Public Law 187 (82nd Congress) also qualify. The distinctive D.V. plates carry the same parking privileges as a standard disabled-parking accommodation.
No registration or re-registration fee on one vehicle, every year
Gold Star Parents and Spouses Pay No Plate Fee — and the Licence Designation Is Free
Surviving spouses and parents of a servicemember killed during a recognised war period do not pay the specialty plate fees on the Gold Star Family plate. Adding the veteran designation to a new or renewed driver licence costs nothing; a duplicate costs $15.
No specialty plate fee for a Gold Star surviving spouse or parent; no charge for the licence designation, $15 for a duplicate
The Disability Placard Pays for Itself at the Meter — and a VA Rating Does Not Get You One
A disability plate or placard in this state carries four privileges that are worth real money: free metered parking, unlimited time in otherwise time-restricted zones, fuel from a full-service pump at the self-service price where both are sold, and a duty on a self-service station to pump for you on request when there is no able-bodied adult in the vehicle. The certification, though, must come from a licensed physician, physician assistant or advanced-practice professional nurse — a VA rating letter and a disabled veteran plate do neither.
Free metered parking, unlimited time in restricted zones, and self-service fuel prices

In-State Tuition Without the 12-Month Wait
Idaho Code 33-3717B gives resident tuition rates to a veteran separated under honorable conditions after at least two years of service who designates Idaho as their intended domicile, or establishes it within one year of separation. It also reaches members stationed in Idaho on orders, and members who entered service from Idaho. The usual twelve-month residency wait does not apply.
Resident tuition rates in place of nonresident ones
Tuition, Books, Room and Board for Families of the Fallen and Totally Disabled
Idaho waives tuition and fees at its public institutions, pays up to $750 a term for books, equipment and supplies, and covers on-campus housing AND meals during full-time enrolment, for the family of a qualifying servicemember. The servicemember must have been an Idaho resident at entry into service and be a prisoner of war, missing in action, or have died of — or been determined unemployable through — injuries or wounds sustained on active duty. Up to 36 months, or four nine-month periods, within nineteen years of the qualifying event.

Common questions about Bingham County veteran benefits
- What can I claim here?
- The Idaho statewide records apply in every county. We have not researched county-level programmes here, so this page shows state law and complete geography rather than a local layer.
- What is it worth in this county?
- Dollar figures use the county's EFFECTIVE property tax rate - what homeowners there actually paid per dollar of home value, from the Census ACS 2023 five-year file. It is an estimate for sizing a saving; the levy table on your own bill governs.
- Where do I file for a veteran property tax exemption in Bingham County?
- File with your County assessor. The form and deadline are on each benefit record.
- What document does the Bingham County County assessor accept as proof?
- The statute sets what must be proved. An office may tell you which document it prefers, but it may not add a requirement the statute does not contain. We have not researched per-county document quirks in Idaho.
