  1. 1Identify yourself as a veteran to Pretrial Services at your local district court, or to your lawyer. Nothing in the ordinary process does it for you and the referral route runs through Pretrial Services.
  2. 2You do not have to be the one who refers. Family members, law enforcement and judges can all refer a case to Pretrial Services, which matters when the veteran is not in a position to advocate for themselves.
  3. 3Be ready to evidence service-connected trauma. That is the stated eligibility gate, and a diagnosis or a rating decision is what makes the conversation short.
  4. 4Expect the case to move to Warwick. This is one designated calendar at the Kent County District Court serving the whole state, not a docket in your own county.
