Permanent Combination Licence, No Fee — Permanent Disability, Any Cause

A resident with a permanent disability — or any resident 65 or older — holds the permanent combination hunting and fishing licence at no fee, against $43 for the ordinary combination. This is general law reaching every permanently disabled resident, veterans included. A 100% disabled veteran holds a free continuing licence under §20-2-31(c) on a ONE-TIME presentation of discharge and disability papers: the statute states the holder shall not again be required to appear before the licensing authority.

What it's worth: Permanent combination hunting and fishing licence at no fee — ordinary combination $43

  • Held permanently once issued; permits and stamps (deer, turkey, waterfowl) still cost their ordinary fees.
  • RIGL §20-2-31(c) grants a 100% disabled veteran a free continuing special licence to hunt and/or fish, on one-time presentation of discharge and disability papers as prescribed by DEM.
  • The statute states the holder shall not again be required to appear before the licensing authority to present the papers. There is no annual reconfirmation.

Who is entitled to it

  • Your disability is permanent.
  • You are a resident of this state.

Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.

How to claim it

  1. 1Obtain the free permanent licence online, at any licence vendor, or at the licensing office — the fee table lists it as "No Fee" for any resident 65 or older or with a permanent disability.
  2. 2A separate veteran-specific statute (§20-2-31) is reported to give 100% disabled veterans free licences with annual reconfirmation — the permanent-disability route above is the one the department's current guide operates, and it does not re-verify yearly.
  3. 3Saltwater fishing runs on its own licence; ask about the disability exemption when registering.

CorrectionThis record previously reported that annual reconfirmation might be required. RIGL §20-2-31(c) says the opposite in terms: papers are presented once and the holder shall not again be required to appear.
