What this benefit is
A resident veteran whose programme is delayed by an unavailable required class — or blocked by debt on a student account — draws on a lifetime grant of up to $10,000 (doubled from $5,000 on 1 July 2026), of which up to $5,000 can clear the account debt itself. GI Bill eligibility is NOT required.
What it's worth: Lifetime grant up to $10,000; up to $5,000 of it may clear student-account debt
- The $10,000 ceiling took effect 1 July 2026 under HB 4132, doubling the prior $5,000.
Who is entitled to it
- You are a veteran under ORS 408.225.
- You are a resident of this state.

Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.
How to claim it
- 1Pick the form that matches the problem: financial hardship where a required class or training hours are unavailable and delay completion, or debt relief where a balance on the student account blocks registration.
- 2Eligible programmes are broad: anything approved for Chapter 30, 32 or 33 GI Bill benefits, licensed private career schools, registered apprenticeships, and qualifying public-employer on-the-job training.
- 3GI Bill eligibility is NOT required — a veteran outside the federal system qualifies on the state definition (ORS 408.225) and Oregon residency alone. Gather the checklist documents and upload; the department aims to answer within two weeks.
