A Maine resident veteran with an honorable or general-under-honorable-conditions discharge gets free day-use admission to Maine State Parks, Historic Sites and the State Museum FOR LIFE. The pass never expires. It is not issued at 65 or over — because seniors already enter free.   • It covers Maine State Parks, Historic Sites AND the State Museum.

  • It is veteran-only and non-transferable. Family members pay.
  • EXCLUDED: Baxter State Park, Acadia (which is federal), the Allagash Wilderness Waterway and the Penobscot Narrows Observatory.
  • There is no disability requirement.
  • The pass is issued by the veterans bureau and honoured by the parks bureau — two different agencies.

  • You were discharged honorably.
  • You are a Maine resident.

How to claim it

  1. 1Apply to the Maine Bureau of Veterans' Services with the DD-214. The parks bureau honours the pass but does not issue it.
  2. 2Get it before you turn 65 if you want the card itself — after that you enter free regardless, so it is not issued.
  3. 3It is for you alone. Family members are not covered, so budget for their admission.
  4. 4Do not expect it at Baxter State Park, Acadia, the Allagash or the Penobscot Narrows Observatory.
