How to claim it

Deadline: With the application, before the fee is paid

1Identify yourself as a veteran in the application itself, and say plainly that you are asking the director to waive the examination and licence fees under the fee-waiver authority in §8003.
2Expect the director to consult the board, commission or regulatory personnel for your profession before deciding — the statute requires that consultation, so the answer will not be immediate.
3Do not assume the regulator’s military web page covers this. It sets out expedited processing, priority and temporary licensing, and does not mention fee waivers at all — so a veteran who reads only that page will never know to ask.

CorrectionThe statute says "may ... after consultation". This is discretionary authority vested in one official, not an automatic waiver. A veteran told "there is no veteran fee waiver here" is being told the wrong thing, and a veteran told "your fees are waived" is being promised more than the section delivers.
