The state runs three veterans' cemeteries — Camp Navajo, Marana and Sierra Vista — and burial includes the gravesite, opening and closing, a concrete liner for casket burials, a government marker and perpetual care at no cost. How to claim it

  1. 1Choose among three gravesite options — in-ground casket, in-ground urn or columbarium — at any of the three sites: the Veterans' Memorial Cemetery at Camp Navajo (Bellemont), the Veterans' Memorial Cemetery at Marana, or the Southern Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista.
  2. 2Pre-register with the department's pre-registration form and personal information packet so the eligibility file is ready — but spaces are assigned at the time of need and may not be reserved.
  3. 3Eligibility reaches all members of the Armed Forces including National Guard and reservists, veterans discharged under honorable conditions, spouses, un-remarried widows and widowers, minor children and — under certain conditions — unmarried adult dependent children. An eligible spouse may be buried even if they predecease the veteran.
  4. 4Reserve component, National Guard and ROTC members who die on active duty for training or in service, or who have 20 years of reserve service creditable for retired pay, are also eligible.

Worth knowingThe department's operating authority, A.R.S. §41-603(C), was read in an earlier round of this research: it authorises the department to operate veterans' cemeteries and — since 2023 — to provide burial services for National Guard and reserve members whose service ended under honorable conditions.
