What this benefit is

Arizona State Parks gives a free day-use pass to veterans rated 100% service-connected, and half-price day use to service-disabled veterans, military retirees, and active duty, reserve and Guard members. The discount extends to up to three adults with the pass holder, and the pass is non-transferable. Kartchner Caverns and Riordan Mansion tours, camping, reservation and special-event fees are outside it.

What it's worth: Free day use at 100% service-connected; 50% off for service-disabled, retired and serving members

  • The FREE tier requires a 100% service-connected rating, with VA-certified proof presented at a park visitor centre.
  • The 50% tier covers service-disabled veterans, military retirees, and active duty, reserve and National Guard members, on a military ID.
  • The discount extends to up to THREE ADULTS accompanying the pass holder, which makes it a family benefit rather than a personal one.
  • The pass is non-transferable — the holder has to be there.
  • Kartchner Caverns and Riordan Mansion tours are excluded, as are camping, reservation and special-event fees.
  • What it saves depends on how often you go, so no annual figure is published.

Who is entitled to it

  • You served in the U.S. armed forces.
  • You are in one of the groups the discount covers.
  • You have a service-connected disability.
  • You receive military retired pay.
  • You are currently serving.
  • You are in Arizona.

Not sure whether that describes you?

Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.

How to claim it

  1. 1For the free tier, take VA-certified proof of a 100% service-connected rating to a park visitor centre.
  2. 2For the half-price tier, a military ID is what is asked for — retired, active, reserve or Guard.
  3. 3Bring the family. Up to three accompanying adults are covered, which is where most of the value is.
  4. 4Do not expect it at Kartchner Caverns or Riordan Mansion tours, or against camping, reservation or special-event fees.

Sources

Why only one source type: Arizona State Parks both sets and operates these discounts, and its own discounts page is the whole of the published rule. There is no separate statutory or operating source.
