How to claim it

  1. 1Start with the commission on 307-777-8152 and ask for the rural transportation coordinator by role. The commission publishes that post in its own staff list, and it is the person who actually books these rides.
  2. 2If you live in Johnson, Niobrara, Fremont, Goshen, Hot Springs or Washakie county, you may be served by a different grantee — a regional transit operator, the tribal transportation authority or a senior centre — rather than by the commission.
  3. 3Say if the appointment needs an overnight stay. The programme is built for long trips and overnight stays for surgery or extended treatment, not only for day runs.
  4. 4Book early. Six grantees at $50,000 a year each is a thin service spread over very large distances, and the seat goes to whoever asked first.
  5. 5Ask whether a companion can travel. That is not published and varies by grantee.
  6. 6If your county is not covered, ask the commission what else runs. The booklet also lists a veteran transportation service number at the Cheyenne health care system.
