What this benefit is
Every professional licensing authority must run an expedited process for military spouses licensed elsewhere: a licence within 30 days of a completed application, and a temporary licence procedure lasting at least 180 days. Deployed licensees are not charged a renewal fee.
What it's worth: A licence within 30 days, a temporary licence for at least 180 days, and no renewal fee while deployed
- The 30-day and 180-day figures are statutory floors on the authority, not service targets it may miss without consequence.
- The renewal-fee relief is the licensing department’s published practice for deployed licensees, not a figure in chapter 18.340.
Who is entitled to it
- You are a military spouse, which is who the expedited chapter is written for.
- You served — ask about the deployment renewal and military-inactive status.
- Your home is in Washington.
Not sure whether that describes you?
Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.
How to claim it
- 1Ask for the military spouse coordinator by name. Every licensing authority is required to identify a contact or coordinator to assist military spouse applicants and licensees, and going through them is faster than the general queue.
- 2Affirm in the application that you have requested verification of your current licensure status and that you face no pending investigation or disciplinary action — the statute makes that affirmation part of the expedited route.
- 3Hold the authority to the clock: the licence must issue within 30 days of receiving a completed application, and the temporary licence procedure must run at least 180 days.
- 4If you are deploying, tell the licensing department first. Your licence stays active while deployed, you get courtesy renewal notices, and you are not charged a renewal fee.
- 5If you would rather not hold an active licence while away, ask about military inactive status — and a spouse relocating because of a partner’s deployment can use ordinary inactive status.
