Purple Heart Plate — No Contribution, Standard Fees Only

Utah's Purple Heart plate carries NO INITIAL AND NO ANNUAL CONTRIBUTION — the donation most Utah special group plates require is waived. What remains payable is ordinary: $8.25 for the plate ($6.75 for a motorcycle), a $5.00 special group plate fee, $4.00 for the registration certificate, $3.00 more for a set, and shipping. So this is a waiver of the contribution rather than of the fees, and the distinction is worth having straight before you go in expecting a free plate. Proof is a Military Order of the Purple Heart membership card or a DD-214.

Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.

How to claim it

  1. 1Take a DD-214 or your Military Order of the Purple Heart membership card.
  2. 2Expect to pay the standard fees. What is waived is the contribution.
  3. 3Ask about the Former POW plate as well if that applies to you — it is on the same footing.
  4. 4A set costs $3.00 more than a single plate.
  5. 5Budget for shipping if the plates are posted.

Correction"No contribution" is not "no cost". Utah publishes the two separately and a veteran reading only the headline would arrive expecting a free plate and be charged about twenty dollars.
