  1. 1Find the campaign medal on the record before anything else. The Vietnam Campaign Medal for service from 5 August 1964 to the official termination of the conflict is the test — service in the era alone is not.
  2. 2Establish the residency route you are using: residency at entry into service, or ten or more years in the state.
  3. 3If the DD Form 214 does not list the medal, ask the service department to correct the record; that request takes months, so start early.
  4. 4Ask the school what the scholarship covers at that institution. Tuition is named; fees are not.
