What this benefit is

A resident veteran at least 80% but not 100% permanently disabled from service for MORE THAN TWO YEARS buys the lifetime fishing, hunting or combination licence at half the lifetime rate. Short of the two years, the department will review the case on request.

What it's worth: Lifetime licence at 50% of the age-based lifetime rate (RSA 214:9-c)

  • Lifetime rates fall with the applicant's age, so the half-price saving is largest for younger veterans.

Who is entitled to it

  • Your permanent rating is at least 80%.
  • You are a resident of this state.

Not sure whether that describes you?

Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.

How to claim it

  1. 1The gate has three parts: residency, a discharge other than dishonorable, and a permanent service-connected rating of at least 80% but under 100% — held for MORE THAN TWO YEARS.
  2. 2Apply with the VA award letter showing the rating and its duration, proof of residency, and a prior hunting licence or hunter-safety certificate if the licence covers hunting.
  3. 3If you meet everything except the two-year clock, the department's own form says to contact it for review — the rule bends on request, it does not bar you silently.
  4. 4The half rate applies to the age-based lifetime fee table, and the bear licence rides free with lifetime hunting.

CorrectionSummaries that mention this state's licence benefit collapse both routes into "free licences for disabled veterans." Neither half is right: the 100% licence costs $10 once and is perpetual, and the 80-99% licence is half of the ordinary lifetime price with a two-year tenure rule — waivable only by asking the department.

Sources

Why only one source type: The department's own application document quotes the statute and carries the half-rate fee table; the statute server itself refuses connections.
