Who is entitled to it
- You are totally and permanently disabled from service.
- You are a resident of this state.
Not sure whether that describes you?
Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.
How to claim it
- 1Apply with VA certification of total and permanent service-connected disability and the honorable discharge — one plate per veteran at no charge (RSA 261:86).
- 2With the international accessibility symbol on the plate, the vehicle parks free of time charges in any city or town while under your direct control (RSA 265:73).
- 3A narrower registration waiver exists alongside: a war veteran who is an amputee or paraplegic, or lost the use of a limb from a service-connected cause, pays no registration permit fee when the VA furnished the vehicle or a cash settlement toward it (RSA 261:157).
- 4The Purple Heart plate is issued on payment of ordinary registration fees — free plates do not extend to it.
