How to claim it

2The park entry permit needs a form AND a veterans service officer’s signature. A Game and Parks service centre can print the application, or it can be downloaded from the commission’s site.
3Present the application in person when you apply for the permit. The department describes both permits as counter transactions rather than postal ones.
4If you are 64 or over and outside the disability thresholds, ask for the Veteran’s Annual Small Game Hunt/Fish/Fur Harvest Permit at $5 instead — it also includes all state stamps.
5Bring a DD214 or have the Veteran Indicator on your Nebraska driver’s licence. The $5 permit requires one or the other in person at the time of application.
6One park entry permit only. The department describes it as one perpetual permit, so it attaches to you rather than to a vehicle fleet.
7Ask about the veteran and active-duty waterfowl season while you are there. The commission runs a special waterfowl season for veterans as Title 38 defines them and for members on active duty, including Guard and Reserve members on active duty other than for training.

CorrectionThese are frequently described as "free hunting and fishing licences for disabled veterans". The permit is a SMALL GAME hunt/fish/fur harvest permit. Big game — deer, elk, antelope — is not inside it, and a veteran planning a deer season on the strength of this permit will be buying tags anyway.
