CDL Skills Test Waived for Military Drivers — the Written Tests Are Not

Nebraska waives the CDL skills test — driving, vehicle inspection and control — for a currently licensed service member or veteran who is, or was within the past 12 months, in a military post requiring the operation of a military vehicle equivalent to a commercial motor vehicle. Be clear about the limits: THE WRITTEN TESTS ARE NOT WAIVABLE, and School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsement transfers are prohibited. The waiver is emailed to the DMV and reviewed within three business days.

  4. 4Study for the WRITTEN tests. They are not waived and people arrive expecting they are.
  5. 5If you want to drive a school bus or carry passengers, plan for the full endorsement route — those transfers are prohibited.
