VETERAN on the Licence — Proved Once, Never Asked Again

Missouri prints a VETERAN banner on a driver's licence or state ID at no cost beyond the standard transaction fee. Accepted proof includes a DD-214 showing honorable or general under honorable conditions, a DD Form 2 (retired), a VA photo ID and several alternates — and if none of your paperwork fits, a Missouri Veterans Commission Veteran Service Officer can issue an EQUIVALENCY LETTER. Once it is on, DOCUMENTATION IS NOT REQUIRED AGAIN AT RENEWAL, so it is proved once and carried thereafter.

What it's worth: VETERAN banner on the licence or state ID, at no extra cost

  • No additional cost beyond the standard transaction fee.
  • Accepted proof: DD-214 showing honorable or general under honorable conditions; DD Form 2 (retired); VA photo ID; and listed alternates.
  • IF YOUR PAPERWORK DOES NOT FIT THE LIST, a Missouri Veterans Commission Veteran Service Officer can issue an EQUIVALENCY LETTER.
  • DOCUMENTATION IS NOT REQUIRED AGAIN AT RENEWAL.
  • It is proof you carry, not a benefit in itself — but it is what several counter-claimed discounts turn on.

Who is entitled to it

  • You served in the U.S. armed forces.
  • Your discharge meets the test.
  • Missouri licences and IDs.

Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.

How to claim it

  1. 1Ask for the designation at your next renewal, so the standard transaction fee covers it.
  2. 2Take a DD-214, DD Form 2 (retired) or VA photo ID.
  3. 3If none of your paperwork matches the accepted list, go to a Missouri Veterans Commission Veteran Service Officer for an equivalency letter first.
  4. 4Once it is on, you will not be asked for the papers again at renewal.
  5. 5Use it for the state park camping discount and other counter-claimed benefits.
