How to claim it

  1. 1Contact the individual licensing board first. The board that regulates your profession sets its own eligibility and guidelines, and the veterans affairs board says so plainly rather than running a central process.
  2. 2Say at the point of application that you are moving or have moved here on an active duty transfer. That is the trigger for the faster route.
  3. 3Ask for a temporary licence if the permanent one will take time. Boards can grant either a permanent or a temporary occupational licence, and someone holding the temporary one can start working while the permanent application is assessed.
  4. 4Submit your military training records separately. Individuals with military training may, subject to the board’s guidelines, count that experience toward the requirements for licences, certifications and registrations.
