No Licence Needed at All — Under General Disability Law

A Mississippian with a total service-connected disability needs no hunting or fishing licence at all — under the same general exemption that covers residents who are visually impaired, paraplegic, multiple amputees, or adjudged totally disabled by the Social Security Administration.

What this benefit is

A Mississippian with a total service-connected disability needs no hunting or fishing licence at all — under the same general exemption that covers residents who are visually impaired, paraplegic, multiple amputees, or adjudged totally disabled by the Social Security Administration.

What it's worth: No hunting or fishing licence to buy — the requirement itself is lifted

  • The exemption is from needing a licence, not a discounted licence — there is nothing to purchase.

Who is entitled to it

  • You hold total service-connected disability status — the licence requirement does not apply to you.
  • You are a resident of this state.

Not sure whether that describes you?

Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.

How to claim it

  1. 1Carry proof of your disability status and of residency whenever you hunt or fish. The agency requires exempt residents to have that documentation on them at all times — the exemption travels on the paperwork, not on a licence.
  2. 2Do not go looking for an exempt licence to buy or renew. The agency states that exempt licences previously issued for disabilities are null and void; there is now nothing to hold but the proof itself.
  3. 3This is general disability law — a resident who is visually impaired, paraplegic, a multiple amputee or adjudged totally disabled by the Social Security Administration holds exactly the same exemption — which is why the record is filed as not veteran-specific.

No renewal
Once granted it does not need renewing.
CorrectionThere is no annual certification letter to renew. This record previously warned that the agency letter had to be refreshed every year or an expired one would turn a lawful hunter into a citable one. Read on the wildlife agency's own hunting and fishing licence requirement pages, that is not what is required: an exempt resident must simply have proof of residency and of disability status in their possession while hunting or fishing. The agency goes further and states that exempt licences previously issued for disabilities are null and void, so a veteran chasing an annual renewal is chasing a document that no longer exists.
CorrectionThe authority is the Code, not the administrative regulation this record used to cite. Both agency pages attribute the exemption to Miss. Code §49-7-5 and §49-7-9.
Worth knowingPairs with the §27-33-67 homestead exemption: the same total-disability finding lifts both the property tax and the licence requirement.
Known gapThe agency does not say what counts as proof of disability status for a warden, beyond that you must carry it. A VA benefit summary letter is the obvious document and is what we list, but we have not read anything that names it, and neither page sets out what happens if the officer is unsatisfied with what you produce.
