Eight Semesters Without Cost — For the Child of a Prisoner of War or Missing in Action

A child of a servicemember whose official home of record and residence is in Mississippi, and who is officially reported as a prisoner of war or missing in action, may receive an eight-semester scholarship without cost at any state-supported college or university in Mississippi. Books, food, school supplies, materials and extracurricular dues are excluded.

How to claim it

Deadline: Set by the institution
  1. 1Two facts have to be documented: that the servicemember’s official home of record AND residence is within Mississippi, and that they are officially reported as a prisoner of war or missing in action.
  2. 2The scholarship is for any state-supported college or university within the state. A private institution is outside it.
  3. 3Eight semesters is the whole entitlement. Plan the sequence — a change of institution or programme spends the same allocation.
  4. 4Budget for the exclusions from the start: books, food, school supplies, materials and extracurricular dues and fees are not covered.
  5. 5Ask about the other Mississippi routes in the same conversation. A dependant may also be inside the in-state tuition provisions at §37-103-25 and §37-103-17, and a serving Guard member has the separate SEAP programme.
  6. 6A county veterans service officer can obtain the official casualty report the institution will want to see.

CorrectionThis is not the general "children of disabled or deceased veterans" scholarship several states run. Mississippi’s §37-108-1 route is narrow: it turns on a POW or MIA report, not on a disability rating or a service-connected death.
Worth knowingThe condition is on the SERVICEMEMBER’S residence and home of record, not the student’s. A child living out of state can still be inside it if the parent’s home of record was Mississippi.
