Free State Park Permit at ANY Disability Rating — Not Just 100%

Minnesota issues the annual state park permit free to a veteran with ANY level of service-connected disability. There is no minimum percentage: 10% qualifies exactly as 100% does. Purple Heart recipients qualify separately with no disability at all. The permit is displayed on a vehicle the veteran owns and occupies, and daily permits are available for a qualifying veteran without a vehicle. Proof is the VA determination letter or other official VA or DoD validation.

Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.

How to claim it

  1. 1Download the VA Benefit Summary Letter showing that you are service connected. The percentage does not matter.
  2. 2Apply to the DNR or ask at a state park office for the free annual permit.
  3. 3The vehicle must be one you own and occupy, so register the car you actually drive.
  4. 4If you do not have a vehicle, ask about the daily permits — the statute provides for them.
  5. 5If you hold the Purple Heart, say so. That route needs no disability rating.

Worth knowingA great many veterans at 10% or 20% never ask about disability benefits at all. This one is theirs on exactly the same terms as someone at 100%.
