Veteran Navigators — All Eras, All Discharge Types

Regional navigators inside Michigan’s public behavioural health system who connect veterans and military families to mental health, substance use and housing help — explicitly regardless of era or discharge type.

What this benefit is

Regional navigators inside Michigan’s public behavioural health system who connect veterans and military families to mental health, substance use and housing help — explicitly regardless of era or discharge type.

What it's worth: A named person inside the public behavioural health system — no cost figure is published

  • The navigators connect people to federal, state and local resources rather than paying for care, so there is no state benefit amount to quantify.
  • Its value is the part that does not price: someone inside the Prepaid Inpatient Health Plan and Community Mental Health network who knows which door will open for your circumstances.

Who is entitled to it

  • You are the veteran, or a military family member.
  • Your home is in Michigan.

Not sure whether that describes you?

Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.

How to claim it

  1. 1Use the department’s "Find a Veteran Navigator that services your area" tool — navigators are assigned by region, so the right one depends on where you live.
  2. 2Do not screen yourself out on discharge. The programme states in terms that it was created to assist veterans and military families of all eras and all discharge types.
  3. 3Bring the whole problem, not only the clinical part. The navigators are described as covering mental health, substance abuse, housing and other common issues together.
  4. 4Family members can make the call. Military families are named alongside veterans, which matters when the veteran is not the one able to ask.
  5. 5If it is a crisis rather than a navigation problem, use the Veterans Crisis Line first and come back to the navigator for what happens after.

No renewal
Once granted it does not need renewing.
CorrectionThis record has no discharge test in its rule, and that is deliberate. The department states that Veteran Navigators assist veterans of all discharge types — so a veteran turned away elsewhere on an other-than-honorable characterisation should still make this call.
Worth knowingThe navigators sit inside the publicly funded behavioural health network — the Prepaid Inpatient Health Plans and Community Mental Health Service Programs — rather than inside the VA. That is why they can reach services VA enrolment does not open.
Known gapThe department does not publish the navigators’ coverage map on this page, only a link to a finder tool. Nor does it state a response time. Both are worth asking about if you need someone quickly.

Sources

Why only one source type: The Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Administration runs the project and states its scope, its regional structure and its eligibility on its own page. There is no statute to cite because the programme is administrative rather than statutory as published.

This finder provides an informational match, not a government eligibility determination. The responsible agency decides your application.
