The Bridge Toll Has No Veteran Rate — Read From the Toll Schedule Itself

The Mackinac Bridge Authority’s published toll schedule sets two classes and nothing else: $2.00 per axle or $4.00 per car for a passenger vehicle, and $5.00 per axle for everything else. There is no veteran, disabled-veteran, Purple Heart or Medal of Honor rate, and the prepaid MacPass account is a convenience rather than a discount.

What this benefit is

The Mackinac Bridge Authority’s published toll schedule sets two classes and nothing else: $2.00 per axle or $4.00 per car for a passenger vehicle, and $5.00 per axle for everything else. There is no veteran, disabled-veteran, Purple Heart or Medal of Honor rate, and the prepaid MacPass account is a convenience rather than a discount.

What it's worth: No veteran toll rate exists — budget $4.00 per car each crossing

  • The finding is about the Straits crossing operated by the Mackinac Bridge Authority. It says nothing about the international crossings at Detroit and Port Huron, which are operated by other bodies and were not read.
  • Toll rates change by authority resolution. The figures here are those published on the authority’s own toll schedule as read on 23 August 2026.

Who is entitled to it

  • This record is about what the bridge toll does and does not give a veteran household.
  • You live in this state.

Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.

How to claim it

  1. 1Budget the ordinary rate: $2.00 per axle or $4.00 per car for a passenger car, van, motorcycle, station wagon, SUV, pick-up truck or school bus.
  2. 2Anything that is not a passenger vehicle — a tractor trailer, bus, motor home, or step or cube van — is $5.00 per axle.
  3. 3A towed item is charged at the lead vehicle’s per-axle rate, with one exception in your favour: a motor home towing a car is charged the car rate for the towed car.
  4. 4Pay by the cheapest route. The authority applies a 2.3% fee to all credit and debit card transactions, and names cash, Apple Pay, Google Pay and a MacPass account as the quicker options.
  5. 5A MacPass is a prepaid account for frequent crossers. The authority presents it as convenience, not as a discount, and its published material carries no veteran category.
  6. 6Do not ask for a veteran rate at the booth expecting one to exist. If the authority ever adopts one it will appear on this same toll schedule, which the authority publishes in full.
  7. 7An oversized or heavy vehicle needs a call to Bridge Services 24 hours ahead for an escort — that is a safety rule, not a fee waiver.

CorrectionThis is a published absence, carried at zero weight. It is here so that a veteran planning a trip north does not spend an afternoon hunting for a discount the fare authority does not contain.
Worth knowingThe authority’s toll schedule and its MacPass pages were both searched for "veteran", "military", "exempt" and "free" and returned nothing on any of them.
