How to claim it

  1. 1Establish eligibility with a certificate from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs or the appropriate branch of the armed forces — the statute lists five routes: loss of sight in both eyes, loss or permanent loss of use of one or both feet, the same for hands, a VA rating for a physical condition that precludes walking without pain or difficulty, or a rating of at least 50% with service-related compensation.
  2. 2The bureau issues the plate for any classification of vehicle required to be registered, except commercial vehicles.
  3. 3With the plate displayed, IC 9-18.5-5-2 says the vehicle "may not be charged a fee for parking in a metered space" — the same privilege a permanent parking placard carries.
