Honolulu's $20 Registration Fee, Waived at 65

From 1 July 2026 the City and County of Honolulu waives its $20 motor vehicle registration fee, annually, on one non-commercial vehicle for a veteran aged 65 or over who was not dishonorably discharged. It does not touch the state or city weight taxes or any other fee. Apply in person at a satellite city hall.

  • It is $20 a year, on ONE non-commercial vehicle.
  • The eligibility is unusually wide: a veteran aged 65 or over, not dishonorably discharged. There is no rating and no wartime test.
  • It does NOT affect state or city weight taxes, or any other fee. Only the $20 county registration fee.
  • Apply IN PERSON at a satellite city hall. There is no online route published.
  • It applies in the City and County of Honolulu only, not across Hawaii.

  • You are 65 or over.
  • Your discharge was other than dishonorable.
  • You are in the City and County of Honolulu.
