What it's worth: A nominal daily fee — paid in full by the VA at a 70% rating or for a service-connected admission
- The department calls the charge "a nominal daily fee" and does not publish the amount, so we carry no figure.
- Veterans below the 70% line may apply for the federal Aid & Attendance benefit to offset the fee.
Who is entitled to it
- You served during one of the listed wartime periods.
- Your discharge was under other than dishonorable conditions.
- Your home is in Georgia.

Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.
How to claim it
- 1Meet one of the two residency routes: resident of Georgia for the two years immediately preceding the application, or resident of Georgia for five or more of the past fifteen years. You must also be a current Georgia resident.
- 2Check your service period against the list: World War II (7 Dec 1941 – 31 Dec 1946), Post-World War II (1 Jan 1947 – 26 Jun 1950), Korea (27 Jun 1950 – 31 Jan 1955), Cold War (31 Jan 1955 – 1 Aug 1990), Vietnam (1 Jul 1964 – 7 May 1975) and Persian Gulf (2 Aug 1990 – present).
- 3Get the VA to approve you as eligible for skilled nursing care — that approval is a separate condition of admission, not a formality.
- 4Expect health screening: applicants must be free of contagious infectious disease and of behavioural and psychiatric problems, and must not need to be sustained by line-operated mechanical means.
