Expedited Licence for Military Spouses — and the Compact Trap

A spouse of an active-duty or transitioning servicemember stationed in Georgia may practise on an out-of-state licence while an expedited endorsement is processed. The fee is still payable, and the route closes where Georgia belongs to an interstate compact for that profession.

How to claim it

  1. 1Check the compact question first. If your profession is covered by an interstate compact Georgia participates in — nursing, psychology, counseling, speech-language pathology, physical therapy and occupational therapy are the common ones — and your licence is from another compact state, this route does not apply and you go through regular endorsement instead.
  2. 2Hold an active licence in good standing from another state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands or Guam.
  3. 3File using the "Endorsement — Military Only" application type and submit proof of military status and licence verification.
  4. 4Note that being eligible for the military-only application type does not by itself qualify you for the practise-while-pending benefit — the portal workflow tests that separately.
  5. 5If you are separating rather than serving, check the definition: a transitioning servicemember is within 24 months of retirement or 12 months of separation.

CorrectionExpedited is not free. The rule requires that the applicant "has paid the required fee" both for endorsement and for expedited processing. Guides that list this among fee waivers are wrong about it.
CorrectionThe compact exclusion removes the professions military spouses most often hold. If Georgia is in the compact for your profession and your licence is from another compact state, you are outside this route — nursing, psychology, counseling, speech-language pathology, physical therapy and occupational therapy are named on the state’s own list.
Worth knowingA transitioning servicemember is defined generously: on active duty or separation leave and within 24 months of retirement or 12 months of separation. Planning a move a year out can still be inside it.
