No Veteran or Purple Heart Toll Concession — the Only Discounts Are Frequency and Axles

The tolling operator publishes two discount plans and only two: a frequent-user plan giving 50% off once a transponder records 30 or more qualifying trips in a rolling 30-day period on SR-1 or U.S. 301, and a 15% commercial discount for vehicles of three or more axles on SR-1. Veteran status, a disabled veteran plate, a Purple Heart plate and a Medal of Honor plate appear nowhere in the discount schedule or the FAQ.

How to claim it

  1. 1Do not open an account expecting a veteran rate. The published discount schedule lists a frequent-user plan and a commercial-axle plan, and nothing keyed to service, a rating or a decoration.
  2. 2The frequent-user plan is worth understanding anyway, because a veteran commuting on a tolled road may already be inside it. Individual account holders with two-axle vehicles are automatically enrolled, and the 50% reduction applies once the same transponder records 30 or more qualifying trips within a rolling 30-day period.
  3. 3Trips do not pool across the two roads. The schedule counts SR-1 and U.S. 301 separately, so 20 trips on each earns nothing.
  4. 4The transponder is the unit of account, not the person and not the plate. If the household uses two transponders, the trips do not add up.
  5. 5If somebody tells you a Purple Heart plate opens the gantry, ask them to point at the plan. Neither the discount schedule nor the FAQ contains the word.
