What this benefit is

Any active full-time member of the armed forces may buy a hunting, fishing or trapping licence here at resident fees, whatever their home state — but only over the counter, at the environment department or a town clerk, never online.

What it's worth: Resident fees on hunting, fishing and trapping licences for an active full-time member

  • The environment department states this for hunting, fishing and trapping licences alike.
  • Proof of full-time membership must be carried while the licence is in use, not merely shown at purchase.
  • These licences are available only at the environment department’s own offices or a town clerk — the department states they are not sold through the online licensing system.

Who is entitled to it

  • The rate is for the serving member.
  • Your home is in this state.

Not sure whether that describes you?

Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.

How to claim it

Deadline: Buy before you hunt or fish
  1. 1Go in person. The department states the military resident rate is available only at its offices or a town clerk, so the online system will quote the non-resident price.
  2. 2Bring proof of active full-time membership, and keep it with you while using the licence — the department requires it to be presented during the licence year.
  3. 3Ask separately about stamps and permits. The resident rate applies to the licence; stamps and permits are priced on their own.
  4. 4If you have permanently lost the use of a limb, ask instead about the free licence the department issues on a physician’s written verification — that route is not a veteran benefit, but it costs nothing.
Form
Over-the-counter licence purchase
File with
Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, or a participating town clerk
Annual
Claimed once a year.
CorrectionThere is no veteran discount here, and no disabled-veteran licence. The department’s free licences go to people who are blind, intellectually disabled, or who have permanently lost the use of a limb — a disability test with no service-connection element in it. A veteran with a high rating and four working limbs pays full price.
Worth knowingThe concession is for ACTIVE full-time members only. It ends at separation, which is the opposite of the pattern in most states in this corpus, where the discount begins at discharge.
Worth knowingBuying online defeats it. The department sells everything else round the clock through its licensing system, and specifically excludes the military resident rate from that channel.
Known gapNo statutory citation appears on either departmental page, and the legislature host has refused every connection attempted by this project, so the section behind the resident rate is not stated here.
