What it's worth: No direct payment to a veteran — services delivered through funded organisations

  • The Veterans Assistance Grant is open to nonprofit organizations with a 501(c) status other than 19 or 23, and to governmental entities.
  • The Veterans Trust Fund grant is open only to organizations that are Nationally Recognized Veterans Service Organizations with a 501(c)(19) or (23) status.
  • A third grant, for Veterans Community Living Centers, is open only to those centres.
  • For the FY2027 cycle, instructions went online on 1 December 2025, the online application window ran from 20 January 2026 to 24 March 2026, and applications submitted by email were not accepted. The division’s page states that FY2027 applications are now closed.
  • New grantees were required to meet the Grants Manager about their budget and project plan, with appointments only between 7 January and 20 February 2026.
  • The division publishes an annual grantee list for each fund and an annual report for each, which is how a veteran can find out which organisations near them hold current awards.

This record exists to correct a myth. This is not an emergency fund you can apply to. Both programmes are grants to organisations, and no veteran-facing application exists for either.
