What this benefit is

Every California licensing board must expedite an application from a military spouse licensed elsewhere, and from a veteran — and waive the fees for a spouse.

What it's worth: An expedited application, and waived fees for a military spouse

  • The value is months of lost income avoided rather than a fee saved — though a spouse licensed in another state also has the application and initial licence fees waived under §115.5.
  • It binds every California licensing board, and each implements it with its own form.

Who is entitled to it

  • You are a veteran, or the spouse of a servicemember.
  • You are applying for a California professional licence.
  • Your home is in California.

How to claim it

Deadline: With your licence application
  1. 1Say at the point of application that you are claiming expedited processing under §115.4 or §115.5. Boards do not apply it retroactively.
  2. 2A military spouse licensed in another state should ask about the fee waiver at the same time — it is a separate provision from the expediting.

Known gapCalifornia has around forty licensing boards under the Department of Consumer Affairs and each implements these sections with its own form and its own reading of an equivalent out-of-state licence. We cite the department as the operating source rather than implying a single statewide process exists.
