A person may apply to the Office of Driver Services to obtain a veteran designation on a driver licence or identification card.
The application requires a military discharge document showing a discharge status of honorable or general under honorable conditions, and establishing the person's service in the U.S. armed forces.
Accepted documents named by the office are the DD Form 214, the NGB Form 22, the VA Veteran ID Card, the DD 256, the DD 257, the DD 2 (Retired) and the DD 2 (Reserve Retired).
The cost named is payment of the fee for the driver licence or identification card. No separate designation fee is stated.
The same page covers a separate military provision: an active duty member may apply for an official extension of the licence expiration date while stationed outside the state, and the extended licence remains valid until sixty days after the member separates or is honorably discharged.

How to claim it

1Check which of the six accepted documents you already hold before ordering a replacement DD-214. The VA veteran identification card and the retired identification cards are on the list and are usually quicker to obtain.
2Read the characterisation on the document. Honorable and general under honorable conditions are the two that work, and nothing else on the page is named.
3Time the request with a renewal if you can. The only fee named is the ordinary licence or card fee, so folding the designation into a renewal you were making anyway costs nothing extra.
4National Guard service counts through the NGB Form 22, which the office names alongside the DD-214.
