What this benefit is

An Arkansas resident awarded the Purple Heart, certified by the Department of Defense, gets the Purple Heart plate at the standard registration fee and a SECOND plate for $1.00. A motorcycle version exists. One plate may be reissued to the surviving spouse at the regular registration fee — with a marriage licence and death certificate where they were not a joint owner.

What it's worth: The plate at the standard registration fee, plus a second plate for $1.00

  • The first plate is at the standard vehicle registration fee — it is not free.
  • One ADDITIONAL plate costs $1.00, which is the concrete privilege here.
  • A motorcycle version exists on a separate departmental page.
  • Certification is by the U.S. Department of Defense.
  • One plate may be reissued to the surviving spouse at the regular registration fee. Where the spouse was not a joint owner, a marriage licence and death certificate are required.
  • No disability rating is involved.

Who is entitled to it

  • You are the recipient, or their surviving spouse.
  • The Purple Heart was awarded.
  • You register a vehicle in Arkansas.

Not sure whether that describes you?

Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.

How to claim it

  1. 1Apply through the Specialty Licence Plate Office with Department of Defense certification of the award.
  2. 2Ask for the second plate at the same time — it is $1.00 and easy to miss.
  3. 3Ask about the motorcycle version separately if you need one; it is on its own page.
  4. 4A surviving spouse should ask about reissue rather than assuming the plate ends with the veteran. Take the marriage licence and death certificate if you were not a joint owner.

Sources

Why only one source type: The department both sets and issues the plate, and its specialty plate page is the whole of the published rule — fee, second-plate price and surviving-spouse reissue are all stated there and nowhere else.
