How to claim it
- 1Check the qualifying event: declared disabled (100% total and permanent from service), POW, missing or killed in action, or killed on ordnance delivery — during active duty after 1 January 1960.
- 2Check the residency chain: the veteran was an Arkansas resident at entry into service or officially resides here now, AND the student currently resides in the state.
- 3Check the relationship: the legal spouse, a biological child, or a legally adopted child or ward. A stepchild qualifies only if legally adopted.
- 4Apply for the federal Dependents' Educational Assistance programme first and include the acceptance or denial with the application — the state coordinates around the federal benefit. Keep a 2.0 GPA and satisfactory progress once enrolled.
