What this benefit is

The agriculture division’s full programme index and its revolving loan fund page were read this session. Neither mentions veterans, military service or beginning farmers, and the loan fund is open to individuals and businesses generally with no service-related preference.

What it's worth: No veteran limb in the farm loans — the veteran land routes sit elsewhere

  • The division’s programme index lists agricultural land sales and management, the agricultural revolving loan fund, a plant certification programme, the state grown marketing programme, the board of agriculture and conservation, grants, inspection services, marketing services and a farm family award.
  • No entry on that index mentions veterans, military service or beginning farmers.
  • The revolving loan fund page states that loans may be made to individuals, partnerships, joint ventures, corporations or other business entities, and mentions veterans and military service nowhere.
  • The veteran-specific land routes this state does have — the twenty per cent land discount and the land purchase preference — are administered by the land and water division, not by the agriculture division, and are recorded separately in this corpus.
  • This absence is read from the agriculture division’s own published pages. It does not establish that no veteran agricultural provision exists anywhere in the statutes.

Who is entitled to it

  • You served, which is the gate here.
  • Your home is in this state.

Not sure whether that describes you?

Answer a few questions about this benefit specifically — we only ask what this one actually depends on, and we stop as soon as we know.

How to claim it

  1. 1Do not apply to the farm loan fund expecting service to count. It is assessed on agricultural experience, collateral and the business case.
  2. 2The veteran land routes are a different agency. If land is the aim, start with the land and water division and the veteran land discount rather than with the agriculture division.
  3. 3Choose deliberately between the land discount and the land purchase preference before committing — they cannot be combined, and the discount is once in a lifetime.
  4. 4Ring the agriculture division at Palmer on 907-745-7200 and ask directly whether service counts in any scoring. A published silence is worth one call.

CorrectionGuides that fold this state’s veteran land discount into "agriculture programmes for veterans" are merging two agencies. The discount and the purchase preference come from the land and water division and apply to residential and recreational land; the farm loan fund is a different programme with no veteran limb at all.
