05 Dec Should foreigners, currently residing in the United States, have the right to vote?
“The right of foreigners to vote in the United States has historically been a controversial issue. An alien, an immigrant or any non-citizen is considered as a foreigner.
Federal law strictly prohibits noncitizens from voting in federal elections but eleven local governments, ten of them in Maryland, allow foreigners to vote in local elections.
Those in favor of foreigner voting argue that if the foreigners are working, paying tax, living their social lives in the United States, they should have a say in the politics also. Opponents argue that voting is a privilege and should only be shared by a citizen.
What are your thoughts? Should foreigners, currently residing in the United States, have the right to vote?
