Should the government support a separation of church and state by removing references to God on money, federal buildings, and national monuments?

“IN GOD WE TRUST” is the official motto of the United States. Opponents consider this in breach of the U.S. Constitution since it is a clear violation of the separation of church and state.
Those in favor insist that it does not indicate the preference of one religion over another.
