Currently, same-sex marriage is legal in all fifty states.

Although most world religions oppose same-sex marriage, the number of religious denominations that are conducting same-sex marriages have been increasing in recent times.

Opponents of same-sex marriage consider it a threat to the sacred institution of marriage and often argue that children raised in same-sex households perform worse on a variety of life outcome measures when compared to those raised in a heterosexual family.

However, not a single study has found children of lesbian or gay parents to be disadvantaged in any significant respect relative to children of heterosexual parents.
