Celebrating National Hire a Veteran Day

Did you know that every year about 200,000 military members retire from their services and become Veterans?

The month of July holds special importance in the hearts of service members, not only because of the 4th of July celebration but also because of the National Hire a Veteran Day.

This day is observed every year on July 25th and aims to help retirees through awareness, positive reinforcement and resource-sharing. National Hire a Veteran Day is the nation’s first initiative that calls for action rather than just raising awareness.

This day was recognized by departments like the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Labor. These federal agencies encourage employers to hire Veterans and provide them with good career opportunities.

According to the official site of the VA, the VA is in partnership with the Department of Labor. Together, they are working on programs that provide Veterans with appropriate jobs in the private and public sectors.

VA’s job portal- VA Careers, is also available where Veterans can sign in and apply for different types of jobs. Here, a Veteran can get a job for positions like senior leadership, IT, accounting etc.

The VA also provides on-the-job training and educational benefits to attain a better qualification and a better job. As a Vet, it is recommended for you to apply for government jobs, which are usually promoted during the month of July. You can access government official sites like VA, USAJobs.gov etc, to apply in the public sector.

As an employer, you can start by reviewing the Department of Labor’s guide and provide secure opportunities to our Veterans. You can also contribute to DoD Skills Bridge program by training Vets in the needed skills.

With more than 18 million Veterans in the US, National Hire a Veteran Day is an initiative to remind Americans of the value of hiring a Vet.
