11-Year Old Girl Opened Fire in a Middle School – 3 Injured

A sixth-grade girl shot and wounded two students and a staff member at Rigby Middle School on Thursday. According to the authorities, the girl aged 11 or 12 bought a gun to her middle school, located in the US state of Idaho, and shot several shots.

Jefferson County Sheriff Steve Anderson stated that the girl pulled a gun out of her backpack and opened fire inside and outside the school. The school is located in Rigby, a small city located just 95 miles away from the Yellowstone National Park.

A teacher managed to disarm her and kept her in custody until the officials arrived. The investigation is still in its initial phase and neither the motive nor how she managed to get a gun was revealed. Anderson said that they are already following the leads and stated that the girl, whose name has not yet been revealed, belongs to a small town of Idaho Falls.

All three victims were shot in the limbs and are expected to survive.

The authorities reported to the school at 9:15 am, when the staff members reported the incident. All students were evacuated to a high school and were reunited with their parents.

Yandel Rodriguez, a 12-year-old, said that they were doing their work when they heard gunshots after gunshots. After hearing the screamings, his teacher went out to check and found blood on the floor.

While referring to these tragic events, Gov. Brad Little paid his gratitude to the law enforcing agencies and school leaders.

Lucy Long, a sixth-grader, told the reporters that her classroom went into lockdown after hearing gunshots, with all lights out and them standing against the wall. She recorded this on her phone. The video mostly contained whispers and a sound saying, “It’s real”.

Mark Taylor, Jefferson County Prosecutor, said no criminal charges would be made until the investigation is over. However, the charges might include allegations of attempted murder.
