How to use the tables to find your monthly payment

Find your basic rate

To determine your basic monthly rate, refer to the compensation rates corresponding to your disability rating. Locate your disability rating and dependent status on the Basic monthly rates table, and the corresponding amount listed is your basic monthly rate.

Example (Veteran with no children):
In case you are a Veteran with a 30% disability rating, and you have a spouse as a dependent (with no dependent parents or children), your basic monthly rate would be $568.05 per month.

Find your added amounts, if any apply
If your spouse is eligible to receive Aid and Attendance benefits, or if you have more than one child, you may be eligible for additional monthly payment amounts as indicated in the Added amounts table.
First, determine your basic rate.

Example (Veteran with children):
If you are a Veteran with a 70% disability rating, and you have a spouse, as well as 3 dependent children under the age of 18, you would begin with the basic rate of $1,907.06, which is the amount for a Veteran with a spouse and 1 child.

Next, look at the Added amounts table. Find the amount for children under age 18 ($70.00).

Since your basic rate already provides payment for 1 child, you would add the rate of $70.00 for each additional child (so $70 x 2).

If your spouse is eligible to receive Aid and Attendance benefits, you would also need to add $130 to the basic rate. This amount represents the added amount for a spouse receiving Aid and Attendance, for a Veteran with a 70% disability rating.
In the given example of a Veteran with a 70% disability rating, your total monthly payment amount would be:

  • $1,907.06 basic rate (1 spouse, 1 child)
  • + $70 (second child under 18)
  • +$70 (third child under 18)
  • +$130 (spouse who receives Aid and Attendance)
  • Total $2,177.06
