“The current age to begin receiving benefits for Social Security is set at 65 for those born before 1938. It rises to 67 for those born in 1960 or later. Proponents argue that citizens now have a higher life expectancy and if no swift action is taken, the program will bankrupt the country. Opponents say that raising the age bar will negatively impact elderly citizens with low-income jobs.
