Should the government decriminalize school truancy?

A new law decriminalized truancy, changing it from a Class C misdemeanor to a civil fine on September 1, 2015. The law instructs the school districts to ensure students are in class and requires them to adopt truancy prevention measures such as meeting with students and their families.
