“Currently, under the relevant federal and state laws all tax returns are private, including politicians. However, there is a growing debate on whether political and presidential candidates be required to release their recent tax returns or not.
Those in favor consider this essential to ensure that candidates are following rules and are not using their position to make money. Opponents argue that if the law recognizes tax returns as private, then what right does any other institution has to say otherwise.
